Rose stands as the undying force against these demons, much like Harry Potter in his novels and Percy Jackson in his series. Published by Razorbill, the novels follow a plot that circles back in each novel, always leading back to the idea of the Strigoi, and how to end their terrifying reign over a good region of the world and humanity. While in school, Rose must try to defeat the Strigoi, a group of evil undead vampires who constantly attempt to interrupt her education. The book series takes place in what is essentially a school for the mystical, named St. Rose quickly befriends Vasilisa Dragomir (nicknamed “Lissa” in the books), and falls in love with her instructor Dimitri Belikov. Debuting with its first novel release in 2007, Vampire Academy, this six-book series revolves around Rose Hathaway, a coming-of-age teenager who is half-vampire, half-human. ![]() ![]() The family is gathered at her grandmother's London castle giving a party to honor Gwen's cousin Charlotte, who is one day older than her. ![]() It is also a personification of everything what we truly love and respect. ![]() Nevertheless, this story teaches friendship, loyalty, love for the motherland and hope for the best. Frankly speaking, it seems that the good has lost. For what? Nothing except bewilderment, sadness and pessimism evokes such emotions. The Last Battle is a dramatic end to the flourishing fantasy world, where everyone is pious most of the way. Although in the previous parts of this series there is no such an underlying theme, the author also hoists moral issues, speaks about cultural wealth, but more subtly and unobtrusively. However, such straightforwardness can rack one’s brains in this book. Of course, the whole book has an obvious religious implication and it is natural, knowing that Lewis was theologian and Christianity formed the basis of his worldview. The finale turns out to be tragic, even if we are not talking about characters, but about the world in general. ![]() This story is more advisable for adults, because here the fairy-tale world is being destroyed very shatteringly. The Last Battle is the last and the seventh book in Lewis’s series “The Chronicles of Narnia”, which turns out to be very sad and pessimistic. In return, all she has to do is travel through time on a series of assignments for the Company and collect endangered botanical specimens. What 5-year-old Mendoza, on the brink of being tortured as a Jew, is totally unprepared for is to be rescued by the Company-the ultimate bureaucracy of the 24th century-and made immortal. In 16th-century Spain, everybody expects the Spanish Inquisition, as they have a well-known tendency to cart people off to their dungeons on trumped-up charges. ![]() ![]() ![]() Special attention is paid to Sarah Brandon Moses and her ivory miniature, who are the subject of Laura’s latest book Once We Were Slaves: The Extraordinary Journey of a Multi-Racial Jewish Family (2021) These objects offer intimate and tangible views into the lives of Jewish American women from a range of statuses, beliefs, and lifestyles-both rich and poor, Sephardi and Ashkenazi, slaves and slaveowners. ![]() In this virtual talk, Laura Arnold Leibman examines five objects owned by a diverse group of Jewish women who all lived in New York in the years between 17: a letter from impoverished Hannah Louzada seeking assistance a set of silver cups owned by Reyna Levy Moses an ivory miniature owned by Sarah Brandon Moses, who was born enslaved and became one of the wealthiest Jewish women in New York a book created by Sarah Ann Hays Mordecai and a family silhouette owned by Rebbetzin Jane Symons Isaacs.
